Treatment
How is phimosis treated?
Treatment will depend on your symptoms, age, and general health. It will also depend on how severe the condition is. Treatment for phimosis may include:
• Natural Treatment or Home remedies for Phimosis:Wash penis every day. Try not to use harsh soaps or lotions that can irritate your skin. Gently rinse penis with warm water. Use mild moisturizing creams called emollients such as Dermol or Hydromol to soothe the inflamed penile skin.
• Antifungal Creams: If Phimosis is caused by a fungal/yeast infection, your doctor will prescribe antifungal ointments like clotrimazole cream etc. The doctor will tell you how to apply the ointment and for how many days.
• Antibiotics for Phimosis: If Phimosis is caused by a bacterial infection, the doctor will prescribe antibiotics such as Cloxacillin or metronidazole for few days. The duration of oral medications depends upon the severity of Phimosis. The doctor may also ask you to apply steroid cream on the foreskin up to 3 times a day for 1 month. This is to loosen the skin.
• Circumcision In severe and recurring cases of Phimosis where none of the above-mentioned treatment works, doctors recommend undergoing circumcision. Circumcision is the surgical procedure of removing the foreskin that permanently resolves Phimosis.
How is paraphimosis treated?
Treatment for paraphimosis may include:
- • Lubricating the foreskin and tip of the penis, then gently squeezing the tip of the penis while pulling the foreskin forward
- • Making a small cut (incision) in the foreskin
- • Having surgery to remove all or part of the foreskin (circumcision)

There are many surgical techniques for performing circumcision.
Talk to us about the risks, benefits, and possible side effects of all treatments.
Why should you opt for Circumcision?
- • To avoid difficulty in sexual intercourse in case of a tight foreskin (the skin covering the tip of the penis)
- • To prevent recurrent infection in patients with uncontrolled diabetes
- • To reduce the risk of kidney damage due to urinary tract infection
- • To follow religious norms in certain cultures (particularly in newborns)
- • To stop the spread of STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases)
What are possible complications of phimosis and paraphimosis in a child?
Possible complications can include:
- • Pain
- • Infection
- • Trouble urinating
- • Death of tissue (necrosis) in the tip of the penis
What is the Cost of Surgery?
Cost of Treatment depends on the following factors:
- • Technique used: Laser or Stapler Circumcision
- • Local Penile condition
- • Severity of the Disease
- • Any other Pre-existing Medical Condition of Patient like Diabetes, Hypertension, Allergies, Asthma etc. which require special medical attention
- • It is recommended that the patient come for Consultation and Evaluation first, Understand all available options, and then make the Final Decision.
Advantages of Stapler Circumcision
- • Short operative time of just 5 minutes compared to 10-12 minutes of standard circumcision.
- • Minimal pain and tissue injury, and a low blood loss volume. Therefore, the stapler also has the potential to be used in high-volume settings by health care providers with minimal training and experience because of its simplicity and short operative and recovery times.
- • More uniform suture line as cutting is done by a surgical circular blade which is a part of the stapling device.
Disadvantages of Stapler Circumcision
- • The main disadvantage of the Stapler is that there may be a need to remove Residual staples after surgery. Ideally, the staples used for incisional closure need to fall off spontaneously, however, sometimes, they don’t fall off, as a result, the surgeon needs to remove them.
- • It is not a Standard Male Circumcision technique and we have more data on standard circumcision and its long term complications.
- • The stapler has a fixed diameter that cuts in a particular shape thus circumcision cannot be customized when using a stapler.
- • It is not able to use a stapler when there are a lot of abnormal preputial adhesions.
- • It is a relatively costly procedure since it is a single-time usable Device and the cost of the device is added.
- • The stapler device is currently available in a limited range of sizes, thus, limiting its application in patients with Abnormal penis sizes and in children.
Benefits of Laser Circumcision?
- • Painless and Bloodless Procedure
- • No Wounds or No Scars Left
- • 10 Min Procedure, Same Day Discharge
